Name

[edit]

Anomalacra Casey, 1915

Type species: Anomala cuneata Casey, 1915, by original designation. [Later a synonym of Anomalacra (Anomalacra) clypealis (Schaeffer, 1907)] (Note: misspelling as Anomala cuneta [sic] in Allsopp & Schoolmeesters, 2024: 21).

Gender: feminine

Synonymy

[edit]
  • Anomalacra Casey, 1915: 10. (Protonym) (Rank priority [ICZN Article 24.1] over Anomala (Paranomala) Casey, 1915 when treated as synonyms. See Allsopp & Schoolmeesters, 2024: 21).
  • Anomala (Paranomala) Casey, 1915: 12.
    • Type species: Melolontha binotata Gyllenhal, 1817, by subsequent designation of Machatschke, 1972. (Note Ramírez-Ponce & Morón 2009 (p.368) instead argue that Melolontha marginata Fabricius, 1792 (p.164) has priority as "the [valid] first American species described assignable "Anomala (s. lato)", but contra to the first reviser, i.e. Machatschke, 1972 who selected an originally included (available) nominal species per ICZN Article 69. Furthermore Casey, 1915 instead treated marginata Fabricius, 1792 under his Spilota (Spilota) (p.43, plus see *Note) hence it was not originally included in Anomala (Paranomala) Casey, 1915, therefore excluding it from potential selection as the type species of Paranomala. [*Note: Spilota Burmeister, 1844 (= Callistethus Blanchard, 1851) is a junior homonym of Spilota Billberg, 1820, see Callistethus marginatus (Fabricius, 1792)].
  • Paranomala Casey, 1915 (See above, treated as a valid genus by Ramírez-Ponce & Morón 2009, mistakenly treating it as a junior subjective synonym of Anomalacra Casey, 1915, but if so the later would have name priority per ICZN Article 24.1]
  • Spilota (Zaspilota) Casey, 1915.
    • Type species: Anomala cupricollis Chevrolat, 1834, by subsequent designation of Machatschke (1957b). (Synonymy by Ramírez-Ponce & Morónm 2009).
