Synonymy

[edit]
  • Buthus barbouri Werner 1932: 300, fig. 141; Vachon 1949: 287–288, fig. 371; Vachon 1952: 261–262; Perez 1974: 22; El-Hennawy 1992: 98, 119; Kovařík 1995: 20; Kovařík 1998: 106; Fet & Lowe 2000: 92.
  • Androctonus barbouri (Werner, 1932); Sousa, Arnedo & Harris 2017: 63. Comb. nov.

Note: Fet & Lowe 2000: 92. say that Vachon (1949, 1952) reproduced Werner's description noticing that it is insufficient and may refer either to Buthus maroccanus Birola or Androctonus mauritanicus (Pocock). Sousa, Arnedo & Harris 2017: 63 comment that "The relationship between A. barbouri and A. mauritanicus bourdoni Vachon, 1948, a subspecies of A. mauritanicus (Pocock, 1902), another black Androctonus species that also occurs in the Sous River valley, should be investigated." That latter taxon was revised as a valid species Androctonus bourdoni Vachon, 1948 in Ythier & Lourenço, 2022: 242 without any mention of affinities with Werner's older Buthus barbouri Werner 1932, which is only presented in the revised combination Androctonus barbouri (Werner, 1932) in a checklist.
