Administrator access is granted to known and trusted members of the community who are familiar with the policies of Wikispecies. Administrator access is not meant to imply editorial authority on the project.

You can request adminship on Wikispecies if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are not completely new to Wikimedia projects. You have been an editor for at least 2 months and you understand and agree with the goals of the project.
  • You have a user page on Wikispecies and are a contributor here.
  • You agree to follow relevant policies and respect consensus of Wikispecies' users.
  • There is a consensus amongst users here that you would be a suitable administrator.

As with the policy for administrator access on Meta, inactive administrators may have their access removed.

Administrators' abilities[edit]

Administrators have the technical ability to perform the following actions:

  • block (and unblock) user accounts and IP addresses from editing
  • protect (and unprotect) pages to restrict editing of a particular page
  • delete and undelete pages
  • delete images and other uploaded files
  • edit the interface and other protected pages

Administrators assume these responsibilities as volunteers who go through a community review process. They are not acting as employees of the Wikimedia Foundation. They are never required to use their tools, and must never use them to gain an advantage in a dispute in which they are involved.

Misuse of administrative tools[edit]

Misusing the administrative tools is considered a serious issue. The administrative tools are provided to trusted users for maintenance and other tasks, and should be used with thought. Serious misuse may result in sanction or even their removal. Misuse, and its consequences, are defined and decided by consensus of the Wikispecies community.

Requests for adminship status[edit]

Startupevo1 (talk · contribs)[edit]

Why you want to be a sysop ~~

I'm very familiar with the style and rules of Wikispecies. I would like to become an admin for the following reasons:

  1. Be able to update the main page, and make it more attractive.
  2. Be able to delete mistaken and vandalised pages.

Startupevo1 (talk) 10:53, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

  1. Nothing against Startupevo1's contribution as such, but the user has only made a total of just over 1800 edits distributed over 92 different Wikimedia projects. Therefore I think it's a little too early, especially considering that only 10 of those edits were made here at Wikispecies. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 12:17, 30 September 2014 (UTC).
  2. I agree with Tommy - not a single taxonomy edit. Mariusm (talk) 15:38, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
  3. This request appears to be primarily about capability to edit the French main page (which itself is unprotected). The protected items on that page are Template:Languages and Template:MP pictures, neither of which is something a user with less than 30 edits should be allowed to alter without supervision. Concur with others above that user has not shown any taxonomic capability whatsoever and that that is a requirement for admin here. Koumz (talk) 17:20, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
  4. If the applicant has no particular interest in and facility with taxonomy, and minimal experience in WS itself, there is little reason at present to approve the application. MKOliver (talk) 00:49, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
  5. Same reasons as those given above. Accassidy (talk) 09:15, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
