[edit] Pelea

Hello, thanks for all your work in Mammalia. In Mammal Species of the World 3rd ed. from 2005 Pelea was placed Reduncinae, I removed the old link from Bovidae now. If you have a better source for Pelea feel free to give it, and I'll change it back. --Kempm 15:47, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

OK sorry to be in your way :) --Kempm 15:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 100,000

The 100,000 article mark is just around the corner. Please consider stating your preference for a celebration logo on this page. Additional logo proposals are also very welcome. Thanks. Lycaon 09:03, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

The admins' T-shirt.

Congratulations, Ark. You are now an administrator. Always keep an eye on Category:Candidates for speedy deletion and delete nonsense and mistakenly created articles. OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:03, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Good call, that's no arabic. OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:37, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Yes, he made a mistake. Simply tell him nicely and offer your help if he needs it. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:55, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
For User:Oscar Roth Andersen, I rolled back the IP's edits[1] but keep the rest. It's just a user trying to make a joke using taxonavigation table. Next, we got Rhantus elisabethae. I formatted it but having problem with the image to be placed inside the picture box. Not sure if it's just my computer or if it's happening on all computers. Do let me know how it looks on your side. And finally, I salvaged the Kakadudessus tomweiri because it's quite easy to fix it back to good shape. Try avoid tagging and/or deleting pages not using standard formatting if it can be fixed in few minutes. Scientists start to love the wiki because they can observe how information transforms by public-at-large, but become furious if their time spent was deleted in the end. Same, I can view it after being downloaded, but not showing it directly on the page. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:35, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

You have deleted some of my pages... there must have been a misunderstanding. I moved some page to my own namespace, but these was deleted too... can you put them back?

[edit] Help undo move

I moved Eugenia foetida to Eugenia maleolens as I thought this name had priority, but I was wrong. Could you please help me undo this move? Eugenia maleolens should redirect to Eugenia foetida. UME 13:01, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

I found new date, do this is not needed, thanx UME 13:16, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] JS

It works most of the time. The regex could use a tweaking, but its enough for what I use it for. You should try the other little script I have for doing replacements. It's the first section of code on User:Rocket000/monobook.js. What it does is create a tab that when you click it you get a popup asking what to search for and then what to replace it with. It can be quite powerful. You don't even need to know regex that well to start using it (ask me if you want a quick overview of the syntax, there's really only a couple things you need to do most of what you'd want). You'll find most characters are treated as literals anyway. Rocket000 20:23, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] How to cite

Could you format some of these refs to show me correct form, please. Regards, Ark (talk page) 22:21, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

I only have time to do this one for now:
  • Roa-Varón, A.; Ortí, G. 2009: Phylogenetic relationships among families of Gadiformes (Teleostei, Paracanthopterygii) based on nuclear and mitochondrial data. Molecular phylogenetics and evolution, 52: 688-704. doi: 10.1016/j.ympev.2009.03.020

there is no point in adding the PMED link if there is a doi

[edit] Alcoasia amazonica

Well, I'm not sure what you want me to do. Alocasia ×amazonica André might to be an invalid name, maybe better refered to as Alocasia 'Amazonica'. However, the fact that it is not listed in IPNI or Tropicos is not a guarantee that is hasn't been described to science. There are MANY names not listed there which still is indeed correctly published. In my opinion the name could deserve a place in Wikispecies even if it's not valid as it is in general use.... with a clear notation that this is an illegitme name. I have included Clematis ×fargesioides, a name in use, but probably without a formal publication.

I've contacted IPNI and GRIN for a comment on Alocasia amazonica. Epibase 01:00, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
After a discussion with IPNI I've moved the name to nothospecific status and confirmed it is invalid. But, it will probably be validated rather soon...Epibase 22:08, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Witaj

[edit] Cowania

Cowania is a genus in the tribus Cheritrini after Tolweb etc. I have no further documentation about that some tribes are now subtribes. So for the time being i let stay it. I shall surch in documentation for more details. Next week i shall rename Cowania (Cheritrini). Thanks for your attention.

There are more Cowania genera. Therefore i have made Cowania (Cheritrini). So Cowania can delete. I have transferred the species to Cowania (Cheritrini). I had make a mistake to change under Cowania the genus in Cowania (Cheritrini). If you delete Cowania than everything is ok.

[edit] References format

Hello Ark,

Thanks for your fine contributions. Please treat the references in the standard taxonomic format where publication name is in italics and publication issue is in bold.

Instead of:

  • Gill, T. N. (1862) Notice of a collection of the fishes of California presented to the Smithsonian Institution by Mr. Samuel Hubbard. Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 14: 274-282.

Please type:

[edit] Aarn

Are you sure that "Aarn" means Ivantsoff, A. ? Ark (talk page) 22:04, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

The authors are Aarn and Walter Ivantsoff, i.e., Aarn Ivantsoff and Walter Ivantsoff Stho002 22:11, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't think so: [2] Ark (talk page) 22:14, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
how about ION? Stho002 22:22, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
there seems to be confusion - I'll leave it to you to sort out! Stho002 22:23, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
The same is in Fishbase refs, but I believe Eschmeyer, Nelson, and other editors e.g. this pdf. Ark (talk page) 22:28, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
it is odd! Aarn and Walter Ivantsoff's names usually occur together, so it might even be one person! I will send an email to aarn@agric.nsw.gov.au, and ask for clarification. Stho002 22:32, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I emailed:

Hello,
I am a Wikispecies editor. A fellow editor who is adding some references on fish has raised an issue concerning the correct citation of your name. Can you please clarify your full name, and if Walter Ivantsoff is someone else, or another name for you (or part of your name)
Thanks,
Stephen

Email has just bounced back undeliverable! Stho002 22:37, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
I will see if anyone on Taxacom knows anything? Stho002 22:39, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
A reply from Taxacom:

Yes, he is an Australian ichthyologist -- often publishing with Walter Ivantsoff, also of Australia. Aarn is an Aust aboriginal name -- just one name! His refs come first in my Fishes of the world. Joe

[edit] Re:Block

It is still best to give a warning first - particularly in this case where it isn't clearly malicious vandalism. If the editor wishes to continue in Wikispecies, he won't want to have a block on his record without good reason. Stho002 22:46, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Synonyms/old combinations

It is better not to delete pages for synonyms/old combinations, but to redirect them to the valid name. people might search under old names ... Stho002 21:00, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

It is sometimes very difficult to get a point across to PeterR. Stho002 21:05, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the block on Sugar daddy. --Kevmin 10:43, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Fenerbahce type species

Replacement names always take the type species of the names that they replace, so you only need to state the type species of Adamas (by monotypy). I indicate that Fenerbahce is a replacement name by indenting it under Adamas in the synonymy. It is clearer this way. Stho002 22:29, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Do weryfikacji
