[edit] Comments

Considered a distinct genus by Cronin and Meikle (1979:259), but Van Gelder (1977b:8) included this genus in Cercopithecus; Goodman et al. (1998) included it in Papio as a subgenus. McKenna and Bell (1997) placed it in a subtribe, Theropithecina, separate from Macacina (Macaca) and Papionina (all other genera of Papionini).
