The rank "superdivision" is not part of the standard hierarchy, thus the name Cyclorrhapha does not fit (nor does Orthorrhapha, which is not in use any longer). Also, under present use, the taxon Muscomorpha is the only infraorder within the Cyclorrhapha, thus the two are effectively synonyms, so it is simpler and cleaner to exclude the formal recognition of Cyclorrhapha altogether. The Muscomorpha and the Empidoidea are often pooled in a taxon called the Eremoneura.
