The Mesothelae are spiders belonging to a suborder that, unlike other suborders of spiders, is characterized by segmentation of the abdomen. This suborder contains one family, the Liphistiidae. Members of the Liphistiidae family are found only in East Asia. They typically construct burrows for themselves in the soil.
