Can someone explain the differences between Tarsiiformes and Simiiformes? How are they seperated?

  • Simiiformes - Simians, the "higher primates" well known to most people: the monkeys and the apes, including humans.
  • Tarsiiformes - Tarsiers (monotypic family Tarsiidae, genus Tarsius) are a genus of prosimian primates, previously classified as strepsirrhines, but now classified as haplorrhines, though still not considered to be simians.

The Suborder Haplorrhini has 8 families, 45 genera and 288 species.

Recognised as an infraorder by McKenna and Bell (1997; see comments under Strepsirrhini); Tarsiiformes and Anthropoidea were regarded as Parvorders.
