[edit] Phylogeny

The phylogenetic relationships of the suborders of Coleoptera appear to be disputed, with three main competing hypotheses:

(1) (Archostemata , (Adephaga , ( Myxophaga , Polyphaga ))) (Beutel & Haas (2000), Beutel et al. (2008), Friedrich & Beutel (2006))

(2) ((Archostemata , Myxophaga ), ( Adephaga , Polyphaga )) (Hunt et al. (2007))

(3) (Archostemata , (Myxophaga , ( Adephaga , Polyphaga ))) (Caterino et al. (2002), Vogler & Caterino (2003))
