  • Basionym
    • Pinus edulis var. fallax Little, Phytologia 17: 331, 1968.

Taxonomic notes[edit]

Businský (2008) proposed this taxon be changed to nothospecies rank as Pinus × fallax (Little) Businský, Acta Pruhon. 88: 11 (2008), but this is nom. illeg. hom., non Saporta (1865, fossil name) so is unavailable. Pinus monophylla subsp. fallax (Little) E.Zavarin, in II Simposio Nacional Pinos Piñoneros (1987)(comp. M.-F. Passini et al.) 37 (1988), is invalid with an incorrect basionym reference. It may be best to not have subgenera or varieties for the species (Govaerts et al. (2023).
