Summary
| Description | Introduced cool-season perennial tufted ascending or semi-erect grass to 60 cm tall, but often only 10-30 cm tall. Leaves are broad, flat and hairless, except along the lower margins of the blade. Ligules are 1–2 mm long, membranous and truncate. Flowerheads are digitate to subdigitate with 2-13 fine branches (5-10 cm long). Spikelets are less than 2 mm long. The lower glume is minute or absent, the upper glume (2nd from left) is slightly shorter and narrower than the spikelet, the lower sterile lemma (left) is the same length as the spikelet and the fertile floret (3rd from left) is purplish-black at maturity. Flowers from spring to autumn. A weed of disturbed areas. |
