Description

Aspidistra grandiflora, cultivated, Wertheim Conservatory, Florida International University, Miami, Florida, USA. I am sooo excited to see this! I acquired this plant 2 yrs. ago as "Mary Sizemore's Aspidistra sp. from Vietnam." I've checked it periodically for flowers and have always been disappointed. But not today. I pulled the Selaginella away and almost jumped back (I am a bit arachnophobic). With the flower available, I was able to identify this as A. grandiflora, a species described by H.-J. Tillich in 2007.

I couldn't detect any odor from the flower.
